MANUKAU AMATEUR CLUB. J. 11. WADE FIRST AND FASTEST. The Manukan Amateur Cycling Club decided two morn races on .Saturday—a 22 miles for the seniors and a five and a-lialf for the juniors. The seniors' race was contested by 32 riders, and right after the first lap it Avas clearly seen that the back division would be well mi Inns before the event concluded. The two limit men, off Sniin, W. Clarke and T. J. Farrelly, led the first time round, nut it was only 4.47 behind that the scratch pair, Wade and Dwight, were. The scratch men clocked 14.23 for the initial lap. For them to have reduced the handicap by 3.13 for their first lap assured them of being up early on. At the end of the second lap the scratch pair were only 1.-1S behind and riding Avith every confidence. The next lap they had the field and were content to race at a considerably reduced speed. Their fourth and final lap occupied no less than 13.44. No doubt they were all reserving themselves for the final sprint, which provided a thrilling finish. There Avas no one "in the hunt" Avhen Wade asserted himself with a furlong to go. He Avon with a splendid effort by two lengths from Dwight, who Avas hard pressed by Casey. The rest of the 15 finishers were well strung out, and no wonder for the sprint was a real "stinger." The successful riders were :— .T. IT. Wade (scr.) 1 H. K. Dwight (scr.) 2 F. J. Casey (30s) 3 L. Aldred (lm) 4 Fastest time Avent to J. 11. Wade in 59m 38s. The record for this distance Wade holds at 57m 51s, but the slower time returned on Saturday can be accounted for by the fact that a strong southerly wind retarded progress over the last half of each of the four laps, and thkt they Avere with the field so early. Retirements were numerous. FIVE AND A-lIALF MILES JUNIOR RACE. Ten of the younger division faced the starter, and all registered fine times considering the strong head wind over the last tAVo miles. In a spirited finish L. Oxton Avon by seven lengths. The sprint betAveen the two scratch juniors, Yule and Hall, was a real thriller. Both riders Avent the last furlong\vheel and wheel, and the line Avas crossed first by Yule, Avho had a wheel to spare. The competition betAveen the two is very keen. The result of their one-lap race is as folloAvs :— L. Oxton (2m 10s) 1 11. V. Gordon (2m 10s) ~ 2 R. L. Francis (lm 10s) 3 J. Cogan (3m 30s) j 4 Fastest time, 15m 455, Avas clocked by C. T. Yule, off scratch. AUCKLAND CLUB. S. HAYES' SUCCESS.
