CENTRAL AND MANGERE EAST CLUBS. PRESENTATION" OF. TROPHIES.:,! .
The Mangere Central and Mangere .East Tennis Clubs held their annual combined dance and presentation of trophies cere-i mony in the Mangere East Hall last night. There was a large attendance of players and friends of both clubs .in spite'of the inclement weather conditions,, and an enjoyable evening was specif, in, dancing,,; with.progressive five' hundred for the nondancers.
Mr. S. W. House, president of the Mangere East Club, welcomed the visitors, and congratulated the Central Club on regaining possession r pf the.'Hpuse, "which 1 is competed for annually by the two clubs. This cup has now been competed for six times, being won the first two years by the Central Club and the next three by the East Club. Mr. M. Kirkbride, president of the Central Club, who received-the cup for his club, thanked Mr. House for the congratulations. He then presented the following trophies:—Men's senior, championship: Mr. C. Ellett. Ladies' senior chaViipionship, including the "Phoenicians Cup": Miss D. Ellett. Boys' junior championship. (House Cup): I. Ellett. Girls' junior pionship (House Cup): D.Botterell. •
The Mangere East.winners, who jegeived their trophies from Mr. House, ■ were as follows: —Men's senior championship: Mr. J. Solomon. Ladies' senior championship: Miss M. Solomon. Boys' junior championship (House Cup): E. 8.~ Chalmers. Girls' junior championship (House 'Cup):'-"Gc Xewson. Men's handicap singles: Mr.- D. -Tames. Ladies' handicap singles; Miss B. Solomon. Men's handicap doubles: Messrs. M. Nash' arid J. Key. Ladies' handicap' doubles: Misses Crookes :and Solomon. Combined doubles: Mr. J. Solomon and Miss B. Solomon.
The winners .of the ".card tournament were Mrs. Grinter and Mr. Solorrfon, while Miss P. Lyons and Mr. Bagg Avon the Monte Carlo waltz.
