BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS
The Takapuna Borough Council met last ijigkt, the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. W. Hayden presiding.
" A deputation from the Takapuna School Committee, comprising Mr. T. Hanna (chairman), and Mr. G. H. Matthews (headmaster), asked the council to instruct its sanitary officer to disinfect the schools in the borough each week-end, as a precaution against the spread of epidemics among school children. The council agreed to see that the work was clone, whether l)y the Health Department or by the municipality. ' A motion was put by Mr. J. Gumiven that instructions should be given for the preparation of phns for a main line sewer from Jutland Road to the vicinity of the Roman Catholic Orphanage. A countermotion by Mr. A. M. Seaman, that the Finance and Legal Committee _ should submit a report showing the position of the drainage loans and the effect of further expenditure on drainage works on the borough finances was carried. Mr. Seaman said that his motion would have the effect of making clear to the newly-elected members of thej;ouncil the real position of the drainage problem. I The annual rate was levied at 0d in the £, on unimproved value of property in the borough, payable on July 1, with'a Rebate of 5 per cent on payments made within a month. • • . I Eive applications for building permits were granted, the estimated cost of these works, with additions to other buildings, being £4603. The tender of Mr. N". Howe, at £49 10/, was accepted for the erection of a shelter-shed at Rewhiti Avenue.
