HYDRO-ELECTRIC SERVICE.
NEW TRANSMISSION LINE.
TE TEKO TO ARAPUNI.
(By Telegraph.'—Own Correspondent?) TE PUKE, this day.
The Public Works Department is establishing camps on the route of the hydro-electric transmission power line between Te Teko and Arapuni. One of these camps is situated about two miles beyond Hamurana. The intention of the Department is to put through another three-phase feeder line. The installation will be capable of carrying 110,000 volts potential, and is being erected in anticipation of the extension of the line to Murupara and thence through Te Whaiti and Ruatahuna to the power station at Waikaremoana. This will couple up the two great northern generating stations. The Arapuni-Te Teko line will be utilised to transmit power at 50,000 volts to the Bay of Plenty immediately on completion, thus giving security of a standby line in addition to the present connection. Before the new line is completed and coupled up to the system, it will be necessary to build a new transformer station at Ngongfttalia, near Rotorua, capable of dealing with this higher voltage. This station will probably be erected some distance from the township.
