NEW VICAR.
APPOINTMENT AT ST. MARY'S
CANON FANCOURT SELECTED,
The Rev, William Fancourt, of Palmerston North, son of the late Archdeacon Fancourt, and honorary canon of the dioccse of Wellington, has accepted the appointment of vicar of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish, Auckland, in place of the Rev. Percival James, who recently resigned. Three months' notice will be given the parish of All Saints, Palmerston North, by Canon Fancourt, but he may take up his duties in Auckland before the expiry of that period. The appointment of Canon Fancourt is regarded by diocesan officials as distinctly fortunate. He is a clergyman of scholarly attainments, and has had extensive experience in parish work. After being educated at Wanganui Collegiate School, Canon Fancourt went to Eng-> land, where he gained honours in the histcory tripos at Cambridge University, and in 1902 became a bachelor of arts. He spent two years at the Clergy Training School, Cambridge, and was ordained deacon in 1904 amis priest in 1905, by the Bishop of Liverpool. After serving as curate in the parish of St. Jude, Liverpool, he took the degree of master of arts ftt Cambridge, On his return to Wellington he was appointed curate of St. Thomas parish, and two years later vicar of Island Bay parish, which position he held till 1912. Canon Fancourt then returned to St, parish as vicar, continuing there till his appointment to Palmerston North in 1924. Since 1919, Canon Fancourt has been one of the chaplains to the Bishop of Wellington. He has represented the diocese of Wellington in General Synod on two occasions.
