BADMINTON.
THE NORTHERN TOURNAMENT SPIRITED LADIES' FINALS. The Northern Badminton Club's second annual championship tournament was continued in the Mangere East Hall last night, when the finals of the ladies' singles and doubles were reached. One of the finest exhibitions of the game seen in Auckland was the doubles match between .Mrs. Dart and Miss B. Solomon, and Miss M. Solomon and Miss Ellett. This was a hard-fought match all the way, with the issue always in doubt. The tournament will be concluded on Friday evening next, when the various finals will be played, and some good games should be seen. Following are the results of last night's play : — Ladies' Singles.—First round : Mrs. Langgutli beat Miss D. Miller, 11—8, 11 -o. Second round : Mrs. Dart beat Miss B. Solomon, 11—-1, 11—1; Miss K. Waters beat Mrs. Langgutli, 11 —1). 11 —6 ; Miss M. Waters beat. Miss P. Miller, 11 3, 3 3 —11; Miss Ellett beat Miss Rennie,' 11—3, 11 —2. Semi-final: Mrs. Dart beat Miss K. Waters, 11—11—3 ; Miss Ellett beat Miss M. Waters, 11—4, 11—10. Ladies' Doubles. —First round : Misses M. and K. Waters beat Misses D. and P. Miller, 15_5, 15—11; Misses Ellett and M. Solomon beat Miss Rennie and Miss Paul, 15 —§ is—l 3. Second round: Mrs. Dart and Miss B. Solomon beat Miss Ellett and Miss M. Solomon, 17 —15. 15 —12 ; Misses M. and K. Waters beat Miss R. Reynolds and Mrs. Langgutli, 15—11, 15 —4. The semi-final of the combined doubles resulted in a win for Dart and Miss B. Solomon, who beat Wilson and Miss M. Waters, 15 —11, 15 —4. The winners now meet C. Ellett and Miss Ellett in the final. The following is the draw for (he consolation mixed doubles, which will probably be played in Auckland on Wednesday week : Martin and Miss u. Miller v. ,T. Key and Miss McLaughlin ; I'aul and Miss l'aul v. James and Miss R. Reynolds', I. Kiloll and Miss D. Miller v. Paine and Miss Reynolds.
