HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated June 8 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, Loudon:—

Tallow.—.There was no auction this week. The market is very quiet with an easier tendency but there is no quotable change in prices.

Fruit. —The market has been quiet during the last few days, and prices are a little lower. The apples on the steamer Westmoreland landed in a fair condition, l?ut the pears aie variable, there being considerable waste in Cornice and Winter Cole pears. Prices are:—Apples: Statesman and Cleopatra, 13/ to 16/ per case; Dunn's Favourite, 12/ to 14/6; Delicious, Rome Beauty, King David and Premier, 11/ to 14/; Jonathan, 11/ to 15/. Pears (sound fruit): Cornice, 10/ to 15/ per single tray; Winter Cole, 4/ to 5/; Winter Nelis, 5/ to 7/ per single tray and 8/ per double tray. "Hemp.—Manila: The market is easier on large output figures, and buyers are holding back. Closing values, "J" grade, for June-August shipment, £37 10/. The output for January 1 to May 31 was 751,000 bales, against 597,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in Maniia. on May 31 totalled 208,000 bales, against 149,000 at the same time last year. Sisal: The market is easier, and the demand has fallen off considerably. For June-August shipment, Tanganyika No. 1 is _ now quoted at £38 10/, and No. 2 at £37 5/ sellers. Mexican: Nothing is being offered. The nominal values are special brush £41, and good white £37. It is reported that production has reduced considerably. Lucatan stocks, 4000 tons agqinst 23,000 last year. New Zealand: The market is quiet. The only business done is in small quantities from spot. The nominal value is easier in sympathy with others. Wool—The Bradford market is quiet, with a general lack of confidence >.'ew business is restricted to absolute necessities. Quotations for line quality tops are V 2& lower, and for prepared sorts, unchanged.
