PONSONBY BOYS' BAND.
GROWTH OF SOCIETY,
The 13th annual report of the Ponsonby Boys' Brass Band, to be presented at the annual meeting this, evening, shows a credit balance of £438. The sum of £428 was expended during the year on class A Boosey instruments, thus bringing the total up to 120. The Bay of Plenty tour last Christmas was nojj a success financially, owing to adverse weather conditions, but the band had been well received.
The growth of the movement necessitated reorganisation, the scheme to include the formation of more than one band with separate recruits' classes for each. The roll number in the senior band was 56 with 25 recruits, while the number of boys who hacl become members of the band since its commencement was over 250. The high standard of the band was attested to by the fact that it had been engaged to play each year at the Auckland winter show and other events.
Emphasis was, however, laid 011 the fact that, Avhile the movement had the good of the boys of the district at heart, its primary object was the welfare and advancement of the rising generation.
