TEST HOCKEY.

VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS.

NO GAMES IN SOUTH ISLAND.

In connection with the matches against the Australian team to tour New Zealand and Fiji, Auckland has been allotted the match for the Manning Memorial Cup, the principal Test between Australia and New Zealand. A Test match will also be played at Wanganui between the minor association of New Zealand and the Australians. The minor association consists of those eligible to challenge for the Nordon Cup. The nomination of players for both Test matches close with the secretary of the New Zealand Hockey Association on June 20. Mr. L. C. Kent, of Auckland, has been appointed one of the New Zealand selectors. Owing to limited time the Australians will not visit the South Island, although Canterbury, Otago and Buller were keen about arranging matches. The Bush Union, comprising the counties Mauriceville, Eketahuna, Pahiatua, Akitio, and Woodville, has applied for affiliation to the New Zealand Hockey Association. It is probable that Horowhenua will join Wellington as a sub-association. Auckland comes third in order of shield matches, and will be followed by Poverty Bay. In the first match Canterbury play Wellington. With several alteration in districts pending, the whole matter of boundaries under the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Hockey Association is likely to be reviewed. Five challenges have been received for the Nordon Cup, including Taranaki, Buller, Hawke's Bay, Feilding and Wairarapa. The game has been considerably revived in Marlborough, where four new clubs have been formed, and the Marlborough Association resuscitated. For the first time since the war local competitions have been inaugurated at Napier, which will no doubt strengthen the Hawke's Bay Association.
