Ml, when Miss Freda May Watson, third daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. MWatson, of Waipukurau, was united in marriage to Mr. Joseph Albert Tende 11, eldest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. M. A. Tendell, of Hamilton. < The bride entered the church 011 the arm of her brother-in-law, Mr. E. Menary,-arid was daintily attired in white crepe de chine, early Victorian style, with georgette bow 011 hip and silver shoulder flower; her veil was of embroidered net, arranged 011 the head with a chaplet of orange blossom. She carried a beautiful bouquet of roses, chrysanthemums and maiden hair feill- - as bridesmaid was Miss Ellie Sinnott, wearing a rose pink crepe de chine, tight bodice with scolloped Oriental lace on hem and finished with soft velvet flowers, and a tight-fitting tulle headdress finished with small flowers and silver leaves. The Methodist Church, Takapuna, was chosen 'for the marriage of Marjory Shepperton, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Coleman, Esmonde Road, Takapuna, when she became the wife of Mr. Edgar Spraggon, elder son of Mr. E. and the late Mrs. Spraggon, of Allenby Avenue, Devonport. The Rev. Richards officiated, and Mr. Edgar Swinnerton acted as best man. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of_ her father, was gowned in pink. SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A very enjoyable card afternoon was given by the ladies of the Rocky Nook Club to their president, Mrs. Wakerly, who is retiring from office, when Mrs. Tongue, vice-president, presented her with" a handsome vase. Afternoon tea was served in the pavilion, and Mrs. Wakerly thanked the ladies for their present.

On Tuesday afternoon, members of the Henderson Women's Institute held their monthly meeting in the Foresters' Hall, Mrs. Robb taking the chair. Miss .Duncan gave an able and instructive address on ''Dahlia Culture," which was followed by a reading: "Lady Astor, M.P.," by Mrs. C. M. Stuart, Mrs. Platt and Mrs. Laurie, the hostesses, then .dispensed afternoon tea.

The sixth annual meeting of the Auckland Londoners' Club was held last evening, when there was a large attendance. 0 The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory position. The Albany Women's Institute met last Wednesday in the Memorial Library, which looked very cheerful with the open fire, autumn foliage and roses. Mrs. Bruton presided, and at the conclusion of the business members answered the roll call by stating in most instances the opinion expressed by men folk on the Institute movement. Mrs. Bruton then gave a very interesting talk on life in Buenos Aires, where slie had spent some years. The hostesses, Miss Cowley, Miss Bruton, and Miss Hooton, handed round tea. The singing of the National Anthem and the exchanging of seedlings and cuttings, concluded a pleasant afternoon.

The annual meeting of the Auckland Croquet Club was held in the Bowling Club's pavilion yesterday, and was presided over by Mrs. Stevenson in the absence of ,the .president, Miss Coldicutt. The following officer-bearers were elected for the new season:— Mrs. Stevenson; viee-presidents, Mrs. Shanly and Mrs.. Pegler; hon. secretary, Miss M. M. Brown; hon. treasurer, Mrs. Pegler; match committee, Mesdames Evans, Keesirig, Bell, Pegler and Shanly; management committee, MesdamesEvans", Hammond, Ross, Misses Coldieutt and Slator; delegates to the association, Mesdames Evans and Stevenson; green superintendent, Miss Coldicutt. The trophies won during the season were presented by the president as follows:— Championship, Mrs. Bell; Mr. Stratford's Cup, Mrs. Keesing; handicap A and B doubles, Mesdames Coates and Ross. Miss Coldicutt's rose bowl was won,by Mrs. Keesing for the first time.

The Bayswater-Belmont • Women's Society held a very successful social afternoon at the Takapuna Clubhouse, Bayswater, on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Gaudin (president) welcomed the visitors and explained what had been done in the matter of raising funds towards beautifying Quinton Park. There was a keen demand for the cakes and preserves made by the members of the society, and these were quickly disposed of. Musical items by Miss Randall and Miss F. Gaudin, accompanied by . Mrs. Waddell, were much appreciated. The competitions caused much merriment, and the winners were: Mrs. Williamson, Mrs. W. White, and Mrs. L. L. Rabbidge. The monthly meeting of the Otahuhu Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Methodist school room, on Thursday afternoon, there being a fair attendance of members and friends present. Mrs. Benfell, from Auckland, was the speaker; her subject being, "What Women Could do to Uplift and Educate the Young People of to-day by Removing all that is Evil from their Path."

The Misses Peggy and Molly Harding were the hostesses at a most enjoyable party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Harding, "Aoroa," Dargaville, when Miss Marjorie Dargaville was entertained at a gift evening in honour of her approaching marriage. The evening was in dancing, music and ping pong. The Victoria League Girls' Committee gave an enjoyable progressive bridge party in the league rooms, on Tuesday evening. The hostesses were the members of the sewing circle, the conveners being the Misses Kathleen Thomson and Margaret McKelvie. The object of the party was to rake funds to provide materials for making into children's garments. Every month a parcel is given to Sister Pat of the City Mteesion, for distribution among the poor and needy. Prizes were won by Mrs. Bremner and Miss Jourdain.
