PREMIER'S RECEPTION.

Many and enthusiastic have welcomes given to Sir Joseph Ward since his election as Prime Minister of the Dominion, but none, in their warmth and appreciative feeling have equalled that given last evening, when the Tudor tearooms were crowded with his Auckland friends. The gathering had been arranged by the Auckland branch of the L'nitecl party to show Sir Joseph how much his supporters appreciated what he was doing for the country, and was one of the most successful gatherings which have taken place in Auckland. The entrance on the ground floor had been roped off and charmingly decorated by the staff of Milne and Choyce, with deep drapings of many coloured flags, which formed" a lane between which the guests entered. Large tubs of gorgeous artificial flowers were arranged at suitable intervals all the way to the lifts and over the entrance stood a greet.ug. of welcome. In the tearooms, which had been turned into a fairyland of gold and yellow, hung great 'baskets of artificial flowers with "strings of golden leaves interspersed with dark green foliage, all glowing under the tender primrose light. The end of the room was z stage, backed by Naples blue arabesques against yellow and upon this a programme of various items was given.
