HOWICK TOWN BOARD.

BEAUTIFYING PROPOSALS

Referring to the financial condition of the Ho'wick Town Board last evening, the clerk stated that the overdraft was £700 and that £100 of last year's rates was still outstanding. A large deputation of ratepayers attended the meeting, and Mr. J. Crawford presided. The board received a letter from the Beautifying Society, offering to put seats on the reserve at the beach if the noxious weeds were cleared away. The offer was accepted. The Rev. Canon H. Mason, on behalf of the same society, submitted an offer from Miss Nixon of £10 towards the building of a shelter at the beach. The offer of Mr. Foster to supply the necessary trees for planting on the marine parade was accepted, and it was decided to call tenders for cutting and grubbing gorse on the beach reserve. The board's engineer was present and explained the proposals in connection with suggested concrete roading and deviations. Footpaths on both sides of Picton Street were to be included in 1 the loan to be placed before the ratepayers. The chairman reported that £600 had jbeen allotted by the committee for ' road footpath repairs.
