BOWLS AND CROQUET.
i The Mangere East Hall presented an animated scene last evening, the occasion being the combined annual social and prizegiving of the Mangere Bowling and Croquet Clubs. The hall had been tastefully decorated with streamers and pot plants -with the clubs' colonra of maroon and gold predominating. Bowls and croquet mallets and balls, together with the championship shield for first year players, of whten the Mangere Bowling Club is very proud, were also prominent. Mr. .T. Clark, president of the Bowling Club, in welcoming the visitors. expressed his pleasure at the presence of so many fellow-bowlers from the neighbouring clubs of Papatoetoe and Otahuhu, including' their presidents, Messrs. T. R. Smytheman and W. Everitr. Mr?. W. R. Knight, president of the Croquet Club, also welcomed the visiting croquet ladles, and remarked that they had come from as far afield as Mauku. Before the various trophies were presented, progressive fire hundred was played by the non-dancers. The prize-winners were:—Ladies, Mrs. Ellision and Miss McGee: gentlemen, Mr. August and Mr. Clark. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. R. D. Knight and Mr. M. Nash. Mrs. W. R. Knight presented the following trophies to the. croquet winners:—Club championship, including Mrs. House's trophy, Mrs. Burrett : rnnner-up (Mrs. Burretfs trophy), Mrs. Ellision; handicap singles for Mrs. Hain's cup and miniature, Mrs. Burrett; "8 ,, handicap singles, Mrs. G Lasletfs trophy. Miss M. Dunn; runnerup, Miss B. Timnis: "A" handicap doubles (Mrs. Solomon's trophy), Mrs. Massey and Miss Timrns. Mrs. Knight also took the opportunity to make a presentation on behalf of the Croquet Club to Mrs. Laslett. senr., Mrs. Dunn, sen., Mrs. Dunn, jun., and Miss Dunn, who art shortly leaving the district. Before presenting the Bowling Club's trophies Mr. Clark handed Mr. B. Steele a handsome fruit stand from his fellowbowlers to mark the occasion of his recent marriage. The awards were as follows: — .Championship singles: Mr. J. Turner; rnnner-up. Mr. R. Prangley. Championship pairs : Messrs. .T. Hollier and W. W. Massey. First year championship: Mr. A. K. Prangley: runner-up, Mr. McCanlay. Handicap *in"le3- Mr. J. Turner. Handicap pairs: Messrs. R. E. Prangley and E. Orpin. Percentage fours (Saturdays) : Messrs. House, Connor, W. R. Knight, and .7. Clark. Percentage fours (Wednesdays) : Messrs. J. Turner, W. Massey. E. Hodges, and v>. Douglas. Labour Day tournament: Messrs. L. Studd and A. Newson.
