LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

SENIOR B GRADE. POINT CHEVALIER LEADS. By defeating Richmond Point Chevalier now leads the B section' in thn Auckland Rugby League minor senior grade competition. Point have been eucccFsful in. winning four of the.five matches played— one being a drawn gnme. Otahuliu have shown excellent form of late and have won three games, one drawn and a loss. The blues are keen to meet Point in thn second round, which commences next week. In their last meeting a draw resulted. Northcote possess a well-bal-anced combination which have, been sucsuccessful in three matches. The game between Point Chevalier and Richmond proved a great tussle from the kick-off, and Point were surprised at the swift attacks of their youthful opponents. Like all Richmond teams, the senior B threw the ball about in bewildering style, and only resolute tackling kept the colts from scoring. It was Monaghan's trusty boot that gave Point the advantage. He kicked three goals, all the points scored. On the day's play there was little to choose between the teams, although Point had. more experience. For the winners, Callender played a sound game at fullback, getting through a lot of useful work. Smith stood out as the best back and gave a high-class display. He was in every movement, and proved a thorn in Richmond's side. Duncan and McLaren got few opportunities on the wing. Lane was a great defender and should do well at five-eighths. Back in his old position. McMillan, late of Richmond, did good work in the back row of the scrum. He is a useful forward in form. Horton, Goodwin and Morrow played fine games. Richmond's backs, played good football and combined effectively at times. Jones and Farrell were associated in clever play and Xeale and Potter gave excellent support. Although on the light side the maroon forwards more than held their own, beating the opposition in the loose. Hobbs, Clark and Ven-all were the pick of a hardworked set. ..- Otahuhu proved too superior for Parnell in a fast, open game at Mangere. Parnell were below full strength, hut it is doubtful if the town team would' have beaten Otahuhu. Parnell have been unlucky with injuries among its best players, and each ,week one is ,added to- the. list. Otahuhu will take some beating from now on. Northcote gave a taste of its ability when the marine team soundly beat Mangere. Flushed with youth and keenness Northcote have at last got together a teajri capable of doing well, with .experience. ..On Saturday, pace and fine support of• <the player In possession were features of . their .win. Dean plnyed a grand game and saved splendidly with powerful kicks. Fitzgerald and Robertson were prominent on attack and the pair payed the way for several tries. Keymer was an outstanding player. In the forwards, Mllle,r and Hurley were dangerous, Bailey also playing a good game. For Mangere,- R. Roberts was easily the best back. His powerful, straight runs played havoc with the defence, but he got. little support. Hannant' revealed a lot of .pace, as did Wilson, whose form showed improvement. Bartlett and Ranganul were the pick of the forwards.
