TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
ITS CULTURAL ASPECT. EMANCIPATOR FROM THE PAST. (By Telegraph.—Press , Association-), WELLINGTON, this day; The fourteenth annual meeting of the New Zealand Technical-Schools Teachers' Association .opened,, this, mornjug. The president, Mr. L. T. Wild, was in the chair. The report showed a membership of 217, an increase of 20, and that,finances were sound. In his address Mr. Wild stressed education in cultural aspect as against the mere conveying of facts. Despite their technical character, he said technical colleges were cultural, but they had allowed the public to cherish an illusion that some of the teachers were willing to have them cherish—that there was no cultural value in technical education. He believed it was the destiny 1 of their association to be the emancipator from the past, and be the builder of the new in education in New Zealand. It was' their work to bring young people face to face with practical problems of. the present, and so fit them and their generation to meet problems that lay. before„ them.
