DEFIED ORDERS.

Anti-God Procession Routed By Religious People. HEATHENISM IN RUSSIA. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) MOSCOW, May 13. Tula, Moscow's nearest neighbouring town of any note, was the only centre to show defiance of Moscow's orders to carry out anti-religious demonstrations. A revolting feature of the affair was that children were in the forefront of the heathenish displays. However, the deeply religious people of Tula not only routed the scoffers' processions but dug out indoor demonstrators, chased them through the streets, and destroyed blasphemous placards and banners. The Soviet finds comfort in the fact that elsewhere the anti-religious displays were carried out effectively, though nowhere were devout people intimidated into abandoning their devotions.
