A travelling correspondent writes that he had a peculiar happening with his car recently, which might have ended seriously. Pulling up to help a brother of the road, he lifted up the front seat to get some tools, leaving the seat on a sloping angle. The seat slipped forward on to the gear-lever, putting the. gear in reverse. Not content with this, it then rested on the accelerator. The car imme» diately rushed backwards. The owner made a dash for the wheel, steering the car free from bystanders and keeping it on the road until it was finally brought to a standstill. The seat became wedged down on the accelerator, keeping it full on. ''The Gamble of Life," for princes or clods, is losing the stakes in taking the odds •strlfe nW<J ° f Life '" iS scrambo an(!
