"MISS EUROPE" WARNED.
TEXAS SHOW DECLARED "VULGAR DISPLAY." BISHOP'S DENUNCIATION. An alleged facsimile of a letter written by Mgr. Christopher Edward Byrne, Bishop of Galveston, in which he urges Miss Lisel Goldarbeiter, the Hungarian girl who won the title of "Miss Europe" at the recent continental beauty competition, not to participate in the forthcoming Galveston pageant, is printed in Vienna newspapers. The Bishop, basing his letter on newspaper clippings which announced that "Miss Europe" would go to Galveston, wrote: "The Galveston pageant is an uncouth and vulgar display for the purpose of advertising. No Galveston lady enters it. Very many frown upon it. When you come here you will be asked to parade only in a bathing suit before a motley crowd, who will view you at close range as they might a beautiful animal. I cannot see how any self-re-specting, modest young lady will enter such a contest." "Miss Europe" stated that as a result of the letter, she would take.pains to ascertain whether the competition was a serious affair. She said she would not enter otherwise.
