OPOTIKI.

At the monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council a letter was received from the _ Bay of Plenty Development League stating that the annual meeting would be held at Rotorua on May 31. The council decided to send as a remit a strong protest against the constitution of the Transport Board, as there was only one representative for all the county councils in the Dominion. It was also decided to send a protest to the Minister. A telegram was received from the Minister of Public Works stating that the question of the Oponae bridge over the Waioeka river was receiving consideration. The Main Highways Board notified the council that a subsidy of £3 for fl would be paid for taking off sharp corners on the Opotiki-Whaka-tane road. The secretary of the Opotiki Hospital Board notified the council that the county's levy amounted to £1393 4/8, "which was £320 less than last year. It was decided to notify the Motu river ferryman that the subsidy would not be paid after July 31, as it was expected that the new bridge would be completed before that date. Before closing the meeting the chairman expressed regret that Councillor Hogg would not be seeking re-election. The Matakaoa Hospital Board wrote agreeing with the arrangement as io their nurse, concluding the agreement between the two boards. A letter was received from the Rotorua King George V. Hospital stating that there would be an increase in the fees. The board decided to write protesting against the increase as the board had to take the risk of collecting fees incurred bv Opotiki patients. Mr. G. 6.
