NEW DISTILLERY.
ESTABLISHED AT GEELONG. ALCOHOL FOB MOTOR CARS. EDINBURGH FIRM INTERESTED. "Trade conditions in Adelaide are not good. There lias been a drought over there for eix months and that part of the country has had a distinct setback," said Mr. H. C. McCoy, manager of the Auckland branch of the NewZealand Breweries, Limited. Speaking of the trade in which, he is particularly interested, Mr. McCoy said it was good everywhere in Australia, simply on account of the security of tenure they have. The breweries were right up to date in. every respect. Mr. W. P. Minell, who is on his fifth business visit to the Dominion, is also interested in the liquor trade in Australia. He is chairman of directors of the new distillery company recently established at Corio, near Geelong. Experts, who nave sampled the products, state that the spirit which i 3 being turned out will, on maturity, be classed among the best in the world. , Both whisky and gin are being manufactured at the present time. Half the capital of the company has been subscribed by the D.C.L. Company, of Scotland, and the other 'half in Australia. The board of directors consists of six members —three representing the distillery company and three the Australian shareholders. Mr. Minell is also a director of the Power Alcohol Company, of Cyrena, North Queensland, where molasses are turned into alcohol for use in driving motor cars. Also on the Aorangi is Mr. G. J. Nicolson, general works manager of the Distillery Company, of Edinburgh, who is accompanied by Mr. Gregor, engineer for the same company, and Mr. F. Meister, the company's chemist. They came out from Scotland to see company get a fair start," as Mr. Nicolson put it.
