FOUND UNCONSCIOUS.
PORTER IN SIGNAL.BOX. EXPLAINS THAT HE FAINTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTOX X., this day. The report that a starling sequel to the attempt to derail "Field's express" at Longbiirn on Wednesda evening had occurred the following night is officially denied. On Thursday evening the station staff at Longburn received a telephone ring from the signal-box, where Porter Stairs is stationed. They answered the ring, but heard no voice. An investigation was made, and Stairs was found unconscious on the floor, with a slight scratch on one cheek. window in the box was broken. When uestioned by the police and the' railway traffic inspector. Stairs stated that he had merely fainted.
