THE BOOT TRADE.
In the talk of the unemployment trouble we never hear a word of the bootmaker. I myself, like a good many more, am out of work and have no chance_of getting any in the factory. Every time you ask they say there is nothing doing, and tnere never will be unless the union alters the rules. I am only one of many who is receiving the old age pension, but a man cannot live on seventeen shillings a week, and he should be given a few days' work a week. If I was lucky enough to get a job in the factory I should have to get a permit to work 44 hours a week for £2 a week. If work cannot be provided, what about the employers getting up a subscription list for some of the pioneers of the trade? . J. PRITCHARD.
