CRICKET OPENS.
Nottingham First Team To Make Experiment. WIDER AND HIGHER WICKET. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Received 1 p.in.) LONDON, May 1. Cricket was officially opened in cold and cloudy weather at Lords. Nottingham l.:'.d the distinction of being first to try the experiment recommended by the Marylebone Cricket Club, that the wicket be an inch higher and an inch wider, which will be used in' all intercounty matches this season, with the object of brightening up the game. "You do not notice any difference," about sums up the first impressions of cricketers playing under the new cricket conditions. The batsmen after the first few overs soon forgot the larger wickets. The South African cricketers opened their tour auspiciously scoring 337 for five wickets (Taylor 109,. Cameron 87 not out) against Worcester.
