SHOOTING SEASON.
PROTECTION OF PUKEKO. Reference was made this morning by the secretary of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society (Mr. C. M. Gordon) to a statement telegraphed from Hamilton, and published yesterday, that an organised shoot of pukeko had been held in the Taumarunui district. Mr. Gordon said that pukeko were protected this season, and could not be shot. The recent organised shoot in the Taumarunui district was to thin out quail, which were damaging crops. Permission to hold the quail shoot was obtained from the Minister of Internal Affairs.
