(To the Editor.)
I hereby endorse a]] that "M<.rnins*iHe~ j,said about orpani-cd burjilaiv , ai ,U ui the suburbs and can contirm hi.- suspicious a j wm the thieves being youth* -,r mere boy*. Onlr the other evening when <.ut m, niv i.,,i , ' w. ui\ IM< K I saw three schoolboy,. ,-nt. r m\ next-door neighbour's place (which happened to he empty) and pet to work 011 the back door with a large piece of timber with ;},e idea 0 f ?ain . in? admission. When asked what they v. ? , € doing I was told the house w a - not miuc and that they thought they could enter any unw cupied house. Naturally 1 put them'out of the property in qui. k time and w a - subjected to "cheek" by the culprits w h«. n t her'were at a safe distance. 1 und.-i -tali.l the b..vs j n question were interviewed by the police' b ut no action was taken. These' same l.ov t have insulted both my wife and tinself when thev have been passing <>ur )i..use of an e%enin» and when spoken to they have withdrawn to a safe distance and thrown *tone« on our roof Burglary is not the only crime committed in the district. What of the cowardlv assaults on young pirls \hat have taken place latelv» Only last week we read of a brutal attack 'on a girl within a stone"?, throw of where thi.letter wa.s written. There can be no doubt that lack of parental control U at the bottom of the whole trouble. Yet when the parents are interviewed alrout the of their children you arc politely told that%ou are "getting old and fussy." or something' to that effect, and that the young «uies are quite able to take care of themselves, thank you. I have my own opinion about the younp one- Win-* able to look after themselves. =
