RIOTS AT MALTA.
Anti-British Party Quashed By
Constitutionals.
POLICE STRENGTH TAXED.

Lively >cenos wore witnessed at Valetta, following the release of Dr. Misfud Bonnici. a member of Parliament who was imprisoned on April S, during the House's pleasure, in connection with the publication of an alleged distorted version of the Speaker's statement in connection with the political-religious questiou, now being investigated. Signor Salafia. the editor, was ordered to he detained at the House's pleasure on April for an alleged breach of privilege. Government supporters and opponents gathered in strength and paraded the town, threatening disturbance-. The police intervened, and were mo-tly successful, except ont.-ide the Constitutional Club, where the Nationalists wcic passing, carrying a black flag. They shouted, "Down with England." The Constitutional ('tub members rushed out. destroyed the black flag, and hoisted the Union -Tack and the Maltese Flag, while singing "God Save The Kin?."
Eventually order was restored, and one arrest was made, it being Alfred Beneini. an ex-soldier, who allegedly shouted "Down with England!''
