NEGATIVE ANSWER.
Timber Strikers Vote Against
Resuming Work.
BALLOT VIOLATED
MELBOURNE, April 10.
The timber workers' ballot on the question whether the strikers should resume work resulted in a negative answer by 531S votes to 732.
Mr. Justice Lukin, of the Arbitration Court, who framed the award which resulted in the strike, and who ordered the ballot to be taken, says it is evident that the precautions which were taken to obtain a genuine expression of opinion from the workers as to their attitude toward the strike had been frustrated. Twenty-live per cent of the Sydney ballot papers bore evidence that' they had been improperly dealt with, and that the secrecy of the ballot had been violated.
