Sir Eyre Hutsou, "who has been Cover - nor and High Commissioner for the Western Paeitic for four year?, and also Colonial Secretary of Fiji for 10 years, leaves on April IS for Home via Sydney. At the last, meeting of the Legislative Council on Saturday. the senior elected member, Sir Maynurd Hedstrom, made special reference to the departure. He said that, while, they had tiot seen eye to eye with his Excellency at all times, they gave him credit for making a sincere and honest attempt to find the best solution for the. good of the colony. The colony had progressed substantially during the past four years. His Excellency had brought the. finances of the colony into a much improved condition. Child welfare, a very important matter, had been established. Another important work had been the opening of the Central Medical School, for all students of the various groups in the Western Pacific. At least one very important measure had been passed in the shape of the education ordinance. He assured his Excellency of the great regret they all felt at his leaving, and wished him and Lady Hut son every good wish and happiness.

His Excellency, who was visibly affected, replied. Tt, is intended to make a suitable presentation from the women of the colony to Lady Hutson, and to tender his Excellency a public dinner and an Address. When in New South Wales. Sir Eyre intends to visit Canberra and discuss the Commonwealth ■banana duty and other matters with Prime Minister Bruce.
