PROSPECT OF KEEN CONTESTS.
New Senior System Should Stimulate Interest
PROMOTION AND RELEGATION. — INTENSE CLUB RIVALRY.
With the sky cleared of the clouds of trouble that overhung the Soccer code last season the atmosphere is well-nigh electric for the opening of the season on Saturday week, when the senior competitions will be commenced. Much interest centres round the innovation which has been decided upon by the Board of Control in enlarging the senior division to seventeen teams and forming two grades to be played on the promotion and relegation system.
Added to this experiment is the fact that consequent on the demise of the City and Suburban Association and the fusion of the clubs with the A.F.A. new teams have been brought into being, resulting in an intensifying of rivalry that is sure to have its sequei in hard and strenuously-contested games.
