CITY COMING AGAIN.
Wetherill's Retirement Spoken About,
Although only a shadow of their tormer selves, when the Wetherill-l)avidson-Brown eomhination held sway, City, nevertheless demonstrated last season that they are a team that are fast coming back. While in their earlier matches they suffered reverses all along the line, they improved to such an extent by the time the Roope Rooster competition arrived, that thev were able to spring several surprises, 'it is likely that that improved team work shown toward* the death will be reflected again this winter, for most of the talent at the club's disposal is young and capable of development. As an attacking force, ( «ty will be weakened to a certain extent, as it is whispered that "Gigi" \\ etherill, their captain and genius of the game, who thrilled spectators with iiis dazzling brilliance during the visit of the English tourists, intends to retire.
Then, again, Jim Amos. the strapping live - eighths, who threw in his lot with the red ami blacks when he came from Christchurch last year, and won his way to representative honours, lias been transferred to Wellington. Otherwise the team, when it files out when the curtain rises, will be
little altered. Perry, Barehard, Lawrence Iveson, Crouch and Reynolds will probably tigure amongst the backs, while lending their weight in the van there will be Hamilton, McLaughlin, I'ascoe, Webberlev and the Hadley Brothers. Pascoe will don the jersey again, having recovered from an injury that put him on the bank last season, and. as a hooker, his services will be welcomed. It is understood that Johnston, a dashing forward from Ngaruawahia, will join forces with the club, while J. Lewis, a five-eighth of resource and pace, will assist his old club mates to regain their lost prestige. To say the least prospects for the coming season for the former champions are bright.
