"COMMERCIALISED SUNDAY."
RAILWAY POLICY OPPOSED
CHURCH NOT CONSULTED
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day
A special sub-committee of the Wellington Presbytery reported this week on the question of Sunday observance, and a resolution was passed expressing deep regret at the organised attempts of the Railway Department, the Eastbourne Borough Council and the Wellington City Council to commercialise Sundav.
The resolution sets out that "Organised efforts to induce large numbers to use transport services on Sundays contravenes the law, which aims at preventing Sunday being used for financial profit. The Presbytery protests against the principle that responsible bodies should inaugurate policies aiming at indefinitely multiplying the public departure from the Christian faith and worship without the courtesy of reference to the Christian Church, which has both the privilege and means of be ins? judge of such policies.*
