APPEAL DISMISSED.
CASK OF TRAMWAY'S EMPLOYEE
The appeal to the Tramways Appeal Board of Thomas Massicks, of 12, Chester Street, Mount Eden, against his dismissal was unsuccessful.
Appellant stated that he had come to an arrangement with the tramwav service whereby he joined the Tramway Club without subscribing to the medical aid funds. He already belonged to a friendly society, where he paid contributions to a medical fund. Subsequently he discovered that deductions were being made from his wages. The morning of the day on which his letter of complaint should have reached the tramway's manager. Mr. A. E. Ford, ho received his notice of dismissal. He contended that there was no legal reason for his dismissal. From 1020. when he had first joined the service, he had had no complaint made against him. Further, he had never had an opportunity to speak in his own defence.
The board held that in becoming a member of the service, he, Massieka, bad signed an undertaking binding him to join the Tramways Club and that refusal to comply with this was ground enough for dismissal.
