TRANSPORT BOARD'S LOAN.

KB. MORTON'S ATTITUDE. DISCUSSED AT ONEHUNGA. Tlie Transport Board's proposed loan and Mr. F. S. Morton's attitude toward* it were discussed last night at the meeting of the Onehunga i«rou«rii <_ouucil, when Mr. K. G. Speight asked Mr. J. Carlton to tell the council the purport of the resolution he proposed at the meeting of the council in committee last week. Mr. Speight said he asked for this information be-jause reports of a resolution, which had not been moved, had appeared in the J*ress, Mr. Carlton rallied that it had been stated in the ftess that Mr. Morton had not the support ot the people he represented on the Transport Board. He, Mr. Carlton, believed that Onehunga was solidly behind Mr. Morton and he therefore moved in committee to that effect. He thought that those councillors who now disagreed with Mr. Morton had been influenced to change their views by the comments in the Press. Mr. Speight said he supported Mr. Morton in his efforts towards improved transport facilities to Onehunga and the western area but did not agree with his attitude in opposing the loan. Mr. Morton should have consulted the people he represented on the Transport' Board before deciding to oppose the loan. This opinion was also supported by the Mavor, Mr. W. O. C'oldieutt. Mr. F. S. Morton asked if the council was satisfied to be told by Mr. Coyle that his (Mr. Morton's) opposition to the loan was "bunk : ' and "so much sob stuff." If the Onehunga Council decided to let that go through without protest then they deserved all they got. If the council were not behind him in his actions then he ought to make way for someone else. After further discussion the council adopted the resolution from the committee as placed on the agenda as follows:—"Cr. F. S. Morton reported that he. had decided to oppose the extension loan proposed by the Auckland Transport Board, as he did not consider the board was giving the western suburbs, and Onehunga in particular, fair treatment. It is recommended that he he accorded a vote of thanks for the attitude he has taken up re transport matters to Onehunga and the western suburbs." Mr. T. Moor and other councillors made it quite clear that they had their own opinion? about the loan, which they would express at the ballot box.
