GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
POTATOES ARE CHEAPER, AND ONIONS DEARER.
I ! 01' HE 11 LINES I." X CHAN (.IE l.i. The only alterations local iy in grain and produce lines arc in rejrard to potatoes and onions. The former have cased under the .pressure of heavier arrivals from the South. There are still fair quan- [ titiew of Auckland grown tubers offering at the auction marts and through various sources, but merchants are now confining their attention to the Southern crop. Unfortunately the quality so far is very mixed, and many lines have to lu> picked over at this end. Onions. The onion market is still supplied by loc-al growers, chiefly in the J'ukekohe district. The quality is excellent, and as there is a tendency on the part of farmers to bold for better prices later <in the season. values have advanced. Oats and Chaff. The oats market tends to firmness, but there is no quotable alteration. Chaff shipments'from the South are nowcoming forward regularly, and the price is steady at £0 10_' per ton ex store. A little trade is being done in Algerian seed oats, but 'it is of small dimensions. Wheat. Wheat vaiurs are stationary at 7 0 to 7 10 per bushel ex store. It will not be surprising if fowl wheat hardens up during the next lew weeks, a-s the bulk of the grain offering in Canterbury so far tins season has been either first or second grade milling, and the quantity of fowl wheat available h.us been barely sufficient to lil! order;;. Maize. There is stiil pientj of maize about and the selling price is eiO.idy at (i <>. Supplies are coming from the 1» »v of Plenty district to the Waikato and from Gisborno to this centre. Pollard and Bran. Quite a brisk busines.- is being done in pollard and fair quantities have been ordered lately from Australia. Bran is in slow demand, and the local mills can take care of the bulk of the orders, the balance being fulfilled from the South Island. Wholesale Current Prices.
