ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last night, the Major (Mr. W. C. Coldicutt) presiding. Tenders. —The following ■were rcceiicdSanitary contract. H. Bray and Co., 1-2/6 per quarter; McCarten Bros.. I/O 1 /* per week per house; K. R. Smith. Hd (accepted). May's Road ref-erve: McCarton Bros.. £18 per annum (accepted) Allan s Springs reserve: F. Speight. oO per annum (accepted for three years). Mount Smart, soria pit: McCarton Bros. (accepted). Grotto Street reserve: Mr. T. McKerrow. £6 per annum (accepted^. Conference. —Mr. H. Campling, chairman of the building c-ommittee. and the building inspector, were appointed to represent the council at a conference of the Auckland Sawmillers' Association on the 19th inst., to discuss and demonstrate the standard grading rules with the Government Timber Committee. Transport Advisory Council. —The town clerk was instructed to get into touch witli Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.1 1 ., with a view to opposing any reduction in motor taxation, especially heavy traffic license fees. Outfall Pipe.—The foreman of works reported that the foundation of some of the drain pipes had been undermined by the tide and required attention. It was decided that the undercarriage of the pipes should be repaired at once, and that the One Tree Hill Road Board use the outfall tank for another month only. The Mayor reported that the drainage committee had had a conference with Dr. Hughes with regard to the outfall tank, and it was decided to disconnect all root water from houses so as to relieve the pressure on the tank. Proposed Loan.—The council decided to seek the permission of the Government Loans Board to raise a loan for drainage and water reticulation of the undrained portion of the borough.

PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD

The Papakura Town Board mot last evening, Mr. James McCall, chairman, presiding. Workers* Tickets. —The General Manager of Railways, Mr. H. H. Sterling, wrote that the question of allowing workers' tickets to be available by the 7.3 a.m. Papakura-Auekland train was being investigated and he would write the board further on the matter. Odours from Drain.—"l notice that the New Zealand Dairy Company claim that they have done all things reasonable to abate the nuisance,"wrote Dr. J. B. Page in reference to the offensive odour front the stream through the town into which discharge from the company's dairy factory is led. "In spite of all they have done the odour is as bad as ever."' The chairman stated that the matter was ia the hands of the board's solicitor. Town Planning.—lt was decided to invite Mr. Mawson to visit Papakura to meet the board. Town Lighting.—Mr. H. McEntee raised the matter of repeated interruption ia the electric lighting of the town. The interruption on the Thursday evening before Good Friday very adversely affected business. Interruption had occurred again last evening. It was decided to protest strongly to the Power Board. Mr. Weir suggested to remove the street lamp in front of Mr. Johnston's chemist shop to the corner of the Great South Road and Elliott Street. The matter was left to the Traffic Committee to inspect, with power to act. Credit Balance. —Mr. McEntee reported that on March 31 last, the end of the financial year, there was a credit balance of £40j to the general account.
