MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
OTAHUHU MAYORALTY.
MR. T. CLEMENTS APPrROACHED.
A deputation comprising representatives of the business people and ratepayers of Otahuhu waited on Mr. T. Clements last evening and asked that he allow himself to be nominated for the office of mayor. Mr. H. J. Hall referred to Mr. Clements' successful business career and his long association with borough work as councillor for the past twelve years. The deputation, he said, represented all sections of the borough and he had not met with one adverse opinion regarding Ml'. Clements' suitability for the position. Mr. Clements in reply said that personally he would like very much to occupy the mayoral chair for a short period at least, but he would have to confer with Mrs. Clements. He referred to the social side of the position, which, in view of his business activities, he might not be able to adequately fulfil. He would give his answer 011 Wednesday morning. The present mayor (Mr. R. B. Todd), who has occupied the position for eight years, is not seeking re-election.
MR. J. H. ANSELL'S POLICY.
Mr. J. H. Ansell, of Symonds Street, to-day agreed to accept nomination for the City Council. He was waited on by a deputation from the Symonds Street Business Men's Association, and the Grafton Ratepayers' Association, the spokesman being Dr. W. H. Horton. Mr. Ansell said the main points in hi> policy would be the reorganisation of civic departments in order to secure greater co-operation; better control o: pedestrian traffic in the city; and tlio institution of a metropolitan townplanning board and a metropolitan water board. He also advocated the provision of more grounds for recreational training.
