ROLLS FILLING.
MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
RECORD POLL PROMISED.
REGISTER CONTAINS 43,000 NAMES.
Indications are that polling at the Auckland municipal elections will be a record. The main electoral roll has closed and contains 42,787 names as compared with the completed roll number of last year of 39,149. In 19*27 the supplementary roll contributed 7192 names to the latter total. It is anticipated that this year the supplementary roll, which does not close till 5 o'clock on April 3, will bring the number of electors entitled to vote up to well beyond the 50.000 mark, as Labour interests and others have embarked on a campaign to revise the rolls, and get every possible resident in the city area on the register. One reason ascribed for the increase is that since the last election, Avondale and Tamaki have amalgamated with the city. While 'fhe names of Avondale residents were automatically added to the city's voting strength, those of Tamaki people other than ratepayers, were not for the reason that ordinary residential qualifications did not give them the privilege of wting at town board elections.
