THREAT TO KILL.
HUSBAND ASSAULTS WIFE.
REMANDED FOR OBSERVATION
MR. HUNT REFUSES TO TAKE RISK
When a man, whose name the magistrate ordered to be suppressed, appeared at the Police Court this morning on a charge of assaulting his'wife, the solicitor appearing for the wife asked to have accused bound over to keep the peace. The police stated that accused assaulted his wife yesterday and had threatened on previous occasions to kill her. Seven years ago he was placed under medical observation. "It is only fair to accused to state that he was given a clean bill on that occasion," said counsel. Senior Sergeant O'Grady said there was still some doubt about the man's mental condition. Counsel suggested that accused might be bound over in his own recognisance and allowed his liberty. "No, I'm not going to take the risk and let him loose," said the magistrate. "I will remand him for a week for medical observation."
