HEAVY ENTRIES AGAIN.

RIDDLES DECIDING FACTOR IN TIES

A PAINTING COMPETITION FOR EASTER.

Dear Boys and Girls,— A host of entries this week proclaimed an exceedingly popular competition; nevertheless, the "Ant" puzzle was a hard one, and not one competitor succeeded in getting all 29 definitions correct. T'-enty-fiye words were the most that any entrant had correct; two competitors, Neil McMillan and Bessie Perrett, both being credited with lhat number. The accompanying riddles decided the order in which the prises were distributed. Although neither of the riddles was very good, it was eventually decided that Neil's conundrum was the better of the two. Half-a-dozen entries were all credited with 24 words, and to four of these went the remaining prizes. The riddles sent in by Neville Hillman, Doris Campbell, Rosalie Walker and Noel Watt, earned their respective owners cash prizes, whilst Eric Jacombs and Patricia Dromgool, whose teasers were not quite so good as were the others, each received a four-point certificate. Next week's competition will be greeted with cheers by many, for a painting competition has been in demand for a long time. Because it is Easter week, special prizes are being offered, a ten-shilling postal-note going to the boy or girl who sends in the best coloured picture of the __ C&D .^o' ooo 9 "Dewdrop Fairies.'* Take up your brushes, boys f^rnfit± and girls; surely your fingers are itching to colour this picture drawn "^l^*" - "^ by a little New Zealander. m^^
