BYRD EXPEDITION.
MR. BROPHY'S RESIGNATION. TRIBUTE PAID BY COMMANDER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN. Tuesday. Commander Richard Byrd authorised Mr. Richard Brophy to make a statement in America somewhat on the following lines: "That Mr. Brophy is desirous of re-entering private business in New Zealand, and that the expedition being at its base and equipped, his duties are ended after the conclusion of his present vacation, which he very muoTi deserves. At that time I will accept his resignation from the expedition. The fact that we are ?o well equipped in the Antarctic is due largely to the energy, efficiency and loyalty of Mr. Brophv as business manager during the long*and trying period of preparation in New York." Commenting on the m?ssase. Mr. Brophy said he greatly appreciated the opportunity of taking a holiday, and that he intended to tour New Zealand by motor car. He -would probably visit Australia, and return to New Zealand. Tlk\ City of New York has been delayed by bad -weather on the passage from the ice barrier. Slio i« expected to reach Port Chalmers on Friday or Saturdav.
