UNITED SCHEME PROPOSED. MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS. CONSIDERATION TO BE GIVEN. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") WANGANUI. this day. An interesting remit at the Municipal Conference was one proposing that muni cipal corporations take into consideration a scheme by which they may cooperate in a united insurance scheme with regard to fire risks. Mr. (i. A. Troup. Mayor of Wellington, said that the scheme now consolidated all local bodies. He felt that the moneys paid by local bodies in insurance were in excess of anything they would have to pay were the insurance ■scheme their own. Even the churches had an insurance scheme which had proved eminently successful and given them funds they would never have had otherwise. 'What they had done the association could also do. The machinery to conduct the scheme would be contained in the municipal offices in various districts. However, said Mr. Troup. the scheme would have to be a -afe one to meet every possible contingency. The remit was seconded by Mr. Moffatt (Nelson i and supported by Mr. D. <:. Sullivan. M.P. (of Christchurchi, who stated that Christchurch was carrying on a large portion of its fire insurance and accident in-urance. The former was in credit by £15.275, and the latter bv £7000. The remit was adopted. The president said that the conference owed ?« debt of gratitude to Mr. Troup for the energy he had put into this movement. Mr. Troup was accorded a hearty vote of thank?..
