CORNER FOR BUSY BEES.

USEFUL HINTS FOR YOUNCJ HELPERS. (Conducted by TINKER BELL.} Dear Girls,. — The lighter washing and ironing often falls to the lot of the handy girl, and to her the following hints will prove useful: Scorch marks can be effaced from a garment by rubbing it with a cut onion, and afterwards soaking it in cold water. Another laundry trouble, iron mould, can be removed from white clothing by rubbing the marks with a cut lemon dipped in salt. When the stain fades, gives several rinsings in water. Powdered chalk removes mildew. Mix it with half as much salt and a little softsoap. Smear the mixture over the article, and leave it out of doors for a day and a night. New lace curtains, prints and cali< coes, are troublesome to wash the first time, because of the lime in them. They should be soaked all night in warm water, in which two or three handfuls of salt have been dissolved. This frees the dressing and renders the washing easier. Handkerchiefs should be allowed tai soak for about ten minutes in lukewarm water, to which a good handful of salt has been added. They then wash easily. _ In washing silk the following axioms will prove useful to all little laundressesx 1. Never steep silks, as it tends to harden them. 2. Use only dissolved soap. 3. If a water-softener is needed for white silks, use borax. 4. Have all waters lukewarm. 5. Squeeze, not rub, out the soil. 6. Squeeze out the water, do not wring. 7. Hang the silks up to "breathe" in the air, but not the sun. 8. Roll separately.

9. Iron with only a medium-hot iron.

Girls would be well advised to clip these hints and paste them in the back of their recipe book, for they are sure to prove useful at some time or other.
