The only overseas vessel due at Auckland to-day is the Indinnola, from Antwerp, about 9 p.m. Most of the vessels m port are trying to get away before the week-end. The new 40,000-ton Empress of Britain, wliicu is being built for the Canadian Pacific by John Brown and Co.. Clydebank. Scotland, is to have a speed of 24 knots per hour, and, with the added advantage of the short St. Laurence route, some 1000 miles of which is in smooth water, where full-speed can be made, may be expected to cover the distance from Southampton to Quebec in five days. The new Hmpress will have many exceptional features besides her tonnage and speed. Every first-class room will be an outside room, i.e., having outside light and air. and almost every first-class room will hive a bathroom attached to it. The spaciousness of the accommodation can be realised best by the fact that the new Empress of Britain will carry fewer passengers than the Duchess steamships of 20,000 tons.

The Kalmnnawa is expected to leave Wellington at 4 p.m. to-day for Auckland to complete discharge of her cargo of Westport coal. From here she is to go to Portland to load cement for Wellington and Lyttelton. The Kaponga left Greyiuouth at 1.30 a in yesterday for Westporr. to complete her cargo for New Plymouth, Auckland and Onerahi. The Kanna is now loading at Grevmouth for New Plymouth and Auckland.
