FLAX GROWING INDUSTRY.
FEBRUARY RETURNS. The returns of flax graded at the Auckland stores follow the trend that has now been evident for some-months, quantities being comparatively small. The quality, however, is better and the official grader. Mr. W. J. Rchollay, reports that a considerable period has elapsed since good fair hemp in any quantity has been produced by Auckland millers. In February 535 bales passed this standard. This grade is readily absorbed by users abroad, who speak well of its quality. following are the returns for last month, the figures for February, 1928 being in parentheses:— Hemp.—Fine, 1 bale (—): good fair 530 bales (—); high fair, 38!) (672); lov fair, 400 (1239); common, 161 (944); rejected, 79 (102). Total, 1848 bales (2674 . Tow .—No. 1, 185 bales (—); No. 2, 215 (289); No. 3, 112 (499): condemned, il (43). Total, 62.3 hales (831). Stripper Tow.—No. 2, 24 bales; No 3, 1; total, 25 (none waded last year). Stripper Slips.—Passed for export (3rd grade), 3 bales (S); condemned, — (4); total, 3 (12).
