SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Miss Edna Taylor was entertained by Mrs. E. Clive Henry on Wednesday evening at a delightful farewell party. The latter, who is leaving for Australia, was presented with a travelling rug from her many friends. The house was artistically arranged in various summer flower*. The hostess received her guest in a frock of ivory satin, with a tuile frilled skirt. The guest of honour wore, a. flesh pink crepe de chine and chantilly lace. Mrs. K. X. A very enjoyable party was held on Wednesday evening by Mr. and Mrs. David Brown, of (irev Lynn, and Rurotonga. to celebrate the coming of age of their only son, Mr. David Brown. Nairn's reception rooms were tastefully decorated in balloons, bunting and hanging baskets of ferns. Mr. Holland's orchestra supplied the dance music, and items were rendered by Mrs. Pankhurst and Mr. Ingalls' Hawaiian band. The hostess received her guests in black lace and georgette. The ladies of the Auxiliary Committee of the Community Sunshine Association entertained Mrs. F. M. Rainger at morning tea yesterday prior to her departure for New South Wales. Jt was the first time that the building had beer? us«d for a function of this nature, and the committee had decorated the room beautifully for the occasion with I agapanthus and maidenhair. The tables were daintily arranged with carnations and ferns. Mrs. Ferner, addressing the little party, said she regretted very much that it was not possible to ask the whole of the members of the auxiliary to take part in this function, all of whom she knew would wish to give their good wishes to Mrs. Rainger, whom they loved for her work among them, but unfortunately the building v.as still in the hands of the painters, and there was only one room available for the purpose. She was sure that she voiced the sentiment of the members of the association in wishing Mrs. Rainger ben voyage and a, pleasant journey across the Tasman Sea. A beautiful bouquet, made of carnations and asters artistically arranged in pale pink and mauve shades with maidenhair fern, was presence! to Mrs. Rainger, who said that she lad enjoyed her work with the ladie*, and appreciated tlie fine and enthusiastic interest that had always prevailed. She hoped on her return to renew her work with them, and would look forward to rejoining them later. She carried pleasant memories of her association with the members. At a later period Mrs. Ferner stated that the Community Sunshine Association was now arranging the programme for the year. Jt is intended to form classes that will hold the interest of appeal for the young people as well as be of an instructive nature. The Wednesday evening dance on board "Ye Okie Pirate Siiippe"' was specially interesting to patrons present, as 40 members (including Mi.ss Strella Wilson and other principals) of the "Vagabond King" Company, playing at His Majesty's Theatre, were the guests of the management.
