A MAGNETIC PERSONALITY.
Miss Jean Stevenson was for some time stationed in Auckland, and will long be remembered by the large number of girls "who came within compass of her magnetic personality. The following about Miss. Stevenson is taken from "Every lady's Journal": —i-A' better example of what efficiency can achieve in a business career could not be quoted than Jean Stevenson, a Dunedin girl, who rose from typiete to general secretary of a large body* dealing with thousands of girls in the Y.W.C.A. Being one of a big family, and lacking obligations, the idea came that it was purposeless working for self, eo she began to look round for a field of service. After investigating its activities, choice fell on the Y.W.C.A. Money being needed for a start, she took a course in advertising, and saved the returns v for a training in Adelaide, being launched later at Bendigo. After four years' service in that city she took on the job of industrial secretary, and for two years moved amongst the factt°ry girls, laying the foundations of club work. The next two years were spent in America, part of the time at the National Training School, a union# institution to which come many international students; during the remainder she became a munition worker in the industrial-community of Pittsburg. Coming home, she was appointed National Industrial Secretary, ;yid travelled constantly for five years. The next move was to Auckland, where, as. organising secretary, she was most happy,, the building being wonderfully equipped and complete in structure and detail. Betterment movements, have been the mainspring of Miss Stevenson's activities, a lid there she scored a lasting success by starting appeals for branches now in beinr» an (J. _ financially healthy.
