SPEEDY SWIMMING.

CHAMPIONS IN FORM. CAMERON'S GREAT 100. MISS P. ROBERTSON BREAKS A RECORD. National sprint champion of New Zealand, the youthful Wellington swimmer, I. W. Cameron, delighted spectators at the Waitemata Club's carnival at the Tepid Bathe last evening, by churning through the water over 100 yarde in 55 4-ss, which equalled his own New Zealand record. He swam a great race in the 100 yards first class invitation handicap, the big event on the programme.

With an amazing burst of speed, Cameron won by a yard. Sellers and Lindsay touched together at the end of the first lap, twd feet ahead of Farrell, with Cameron two yard 3 away. On the next length, tindsay and Sellars were still the leaders, Farrell close iip. Cameron was slowly improving his position. Before he was half-way aver the last lap, Cameron made his burst and at 80 yards he

had drawn level

with Lindsay, who had a slight lead over Farrell. Lashing the water into a foam Cameron went to the front and touched a yard ahead of Lindsay and Farrell, who deadheated. Time, 55 4-ss, equalling the New Zealand record. Cameron also raced in the 50 yards open handicap and the 66 2-3 yards dual relay race. Mies Peggy Robertson made a special attempt to improve on her own Xew Zealand girls' intermediate record of 68 2-59 for 160 yards. She swam brilliantly and put up the remarkable time of 65 3-ss, which equalled Miss Ena etoc'kley'fe record for senior ladies. Miss Robertson's effort, however, will be recognised only as the intermediate record.

D; P. Lindsay, the Olympie representative, made his first appearance since coming to live in Auckland, in the 440 yards club handicap. He swam strongly from scratch, just failing ta win. All the other events provided keen competition And altogether it was one of the most successful carnivals that the Waitemata Club has ever held.
