LITTLE AUCKLANDERS.

With reference to the Transport Board, "Pro Bono Publico" wishes to convince the public that the City Council squandered money by day labour instead of saving money in that way. I do not believe the public will accept that as truth without proof. It is not likely that the City Council would choose the dearest way of doing things. Day labour is a big saving when the City Council has its own expert workmen and sufficient plant to carry it out, without having to pay out the contractors' profit over and above the net cost. We have a Transport Board and City Council comprised of invii of experience and ability second to none in the Dominion but we are hampered by the minority ratepayer, who turns the scale against any progressive loan on polling day. This is the "Little Aucklander," who is responsible for a Civic Square desert, deterioration of tram tracks, rolling stock, non extension of payable tram tracks, and the old hovels of buildings in the old parts of the city.
