MINISTER OF WORKS.
RECEPTION IN HAWKE'S BAY,
DEPUTATIONS AT WAIROA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIROA (H. 8.), this day. The Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, accompanied by Mr. F. W. Furkert, chief engineer, and the Hawke's Bay Department officer, arrived at Wairoa on Saturday evening and received several deputations from backblocks settlers, asking for road access. There were also Borough Council requests for a new courthouse and more assistance, works to prevent river eiosion, maintenance, on the Mohaka bridge, and other matters. The visitors were afterwards entertained by local bodies at a smoke concert. Yesterday tlfey visited Lake Waikaremoana and inspected the hydro-elec-tric works. To-day they will inspect the pioposed inland railway route on their way to Gisborne, returning by the coast route to Waikokopu to-morrow.
The Minister had an enthusiastic reception and created a favourable impression.
