STATE ADVANCES LOANS.
ARREARS NEARLY OVERCOME. HON. MR. DE LA PKRKELLIvS VIEWS There was general satisfaction expressed at some refeienccs to the State Advances Department made by the Hon. P. A. de la Perrcile. Minister of Internal Affairs, at Pukekohe. on Saturday. The Minister stated that in two or three months' time all the arrears of applications will have been dealt with, and that those now coming in would he considered by the board in the order of their receipt. "Most of us." said the Minister, "are concerned with the State Advances Office. It was a good thing for this country when the Eight Hon. Sir Joseph Ward conceived the idea of providing cheap money for us all by founding the department which has done such splendid work along the years during the Massey and Coates Ministries. No one can doubt that. 1 am not going to touch on politics; but I must say that the opponents of the present Ministry will admit what 1 have said. They, like Sir Joseph, know the necessity for cheap money: settlers must have it. and the State is
• •ut to help them. Before coming north 1 made some inquiries, as to the position of applications that have been recorded for the last two years. J found that in the space of two or three months all the arrears of applications will have been dealt with. That is a great position. When the arrears have been wiped out then the board of the Department is to tackle the applications now tomini; in. Unmistakably, the Department gives the helping hand' to deserving settlers. and this Government is out to see that it receives all the support possible."
